Linkr API: Introduction

Attention: open in a new window.PDFPrintEmail
The Linkr API was introduced in Linkr 2.2, to allow for different types of links. At the click of a button, editors can link files, articles, menu items and contacts. The thing about Joomla! is that it is used for just about any type of Web Site, from personal blogs to corporate Web Sites. As a result, there is a vast array of components and modules that exist to expand the functionality of the CMS. The goal of the Linkr API is to make linking to anything as easy as linking to files, articles, menu items or contacts... at the click of a button.

What's Possible?

Say you're the author of an events extension, and you would like to add the ability to link to specific events. Linkr already simplifies the task of linking stuff. In the same way, you can use the Linkr API to make linking specific events a breeze. What if you created an online store extension? Editors can browse to the products they want to link to, and copy the URL from the address bar. Not only can that be time consuming, if an update to the extension changes the way the product URLs are created, the editor will have to update all of his articles. By using the Linkr API, you can make sure links always have the appropriate variables in the URL, that way the link is always up-to-date, since they will be routed every time the article is displayed.
uBar 0.9 has been released. This is a beta version; there are still some bugs to be worked out. Keep that in mind before using it on a live site.
